This week, I spent a lot of time back at it again with my trusty sewing machine. I feel like we've really bonded, this machine and I, while I've worked here. I'm actually kind of sad that I'll have to kiss it goodbye soon. I've even given him a name! His name is Niles, but I haven't told my boss that because I'm pretty sure she'd think it was weird. (Because, let's face it, that is kinda weird.) Before and after! Sorry for the obnoxious stickers, my legs were super red in the second picture for some reason and I was kinda embarrassed about them :c I think the rule about being a certain height to play a member of the Disney cast was kinda weird! I mean, it totally makes sense though! You should probably be taller than the children you're trying to entertain. It makes me kind of sad, though. I'll never be a real Disney princess because I'm too short! At least, I'll never be an official Disney princess. That doesn't stop me from being one in my free time! This week was a pretty short week, so I really didn't do much! I couldn't go in on Wednesday, so my week was even shorter. On Thursday, I started working on tailoring in a skirt. The skirt used to be about mid calf length on me. We bought it from the thrift store to use for fabric for another project. My boss had chopped the entire thing up to get the fabric but I decided to see if it was worth salvaging. But I kept messing up so I completely undid it and then went back to it on Friday. I hemmed the skirt, then I tailored it in, and then I seam ripped off the belt loops since I didn't like them. Before and After! The Before picture is also before my boss chopped it up to harvest the fabric for another project :)
This week, I spent lot of time hemming skirts and fixing them for my boss. She got a new job so she needs some more business-like skirts and such for it. I'm not really sure what her new job is about, I was too busy working to really ask! I'll ask her next week :) One of the skirts I hemmed, while in the process of pinning it!
This week, I started to do some more fashion related things! My boss had me tailor in a sweater. I was a little afraid to do it, but after I got the hang of threading her sewing machine, I had no issues. I took the sweater down from an XL to a size Small...Quite the jump! I also tailored in a skirt of mine to fit my waist. A lot of my time spent in the shop has been behind the sewing machine, which was a lot of fun! I'm really learning a lot of new things, and I'm even teaching my boss some new stuff, too! My trusty sidekick! It's certainly different from my sewing machine at home...but different is okay! This week, I finally finished up changing all of the tags into sales tags! I probably won't have to do that again, which I'm almost a bit sad about because it was actually kind of fun to me! My boss has mentioned being interested in making her own clothes, so I'm going to start teaching her all I know about sewing next week! This week, I also learned how to actually use the tagging gun! For changing tags into sales tags, I would usually just put a sales sticker on the existing tag. I got to add new tags to a couple of scarves, which was actually pretty cool! Seeing how the sales tag gun worked was interesting. Personally, I think the little tagging gun is kind of cute!
This week , I finished up changing all of the sales tags throughout the store. I saw my first customer today, and while I was more than enthusiastic to help, she didn't seem very interested in my help at all! I really hope my enthusiasm didn't freak her out...I was just really happy and excited to see my first customer ever! My boss wants me to teach her how to sew, too, which is super exciting and I'm really excited to start! After that weird encounter with the not so friendly customer, we brain stormed some ideas to bring people in. I'll be giving these out to friends and family! (Not this particular one, though, since I accidentally smudged the ink. Whoops.)
I started my first week at Dazzle this week! I get along wonderfully with my boss, Mailinda, and her husband! She also has a fourteen month old baby, Gabriel, that she brings into the store with her every day. The atmosphere of the store is very calming and nice. She sells some vegan soaps in her store, which make the entire place smell fantastic. The picture I took of the soap isn't uploading so here's a picture of my cat instead. Sorry about that!
My boss really isn't too strict about what time I show up for my internship. I have actually been ten minutes early every single time I have driven over, and have sat and waited for her to show up. She has a fourteen month old baby that gives her some troubles sometimes, or sometimes traffic gets in the way, so she won't show up until exactly 11 am. I myself don't like being late, and I have no issues showing up early, even if I'm the only person there. Not being on time looks sloppy to other people, and there will be people in your life that won't be sympathetic to any sort of excuse or explanation that you give them.Perhaps a bit unrelated, but this is a pair of shoes at my work and I think they're gorgeous! I really really want them.I think I connect with most with #10 the most. I'm really mean to myself and I always put myself down, instead of trying to look on the positive side of things. I always feel like I'm not good enough to talk myself up, but I've been learning that I'm better than that. I need to stop being so hard on myself. I almost didn't take this internship after it was offered to me because I thought I wasn't good enough for it! But now I'm happy that I did take it.
